City of Durango and Durango Arts Center Announce the 2008 City Grant Recipients
The City of Durango and Durango Arts Center are pleased to announce the 2008 City Grant Award recipients. Each year, the City of Durango sets aside funds for grants to support local arts as part of the City's Community Support services. The grant monies are administered and distributed by the Durango Arts Center. For 2008, the City designated $55,000 for the Arts Block Grants. The list of 2008 grant recipients includes:
- 3rd Avenue Dance Company received $1,800 for "Take the Lead," Ballroom dance instruction in the schools.
- Animas Music Festival received $3,500 for Animas Music Festival's 14th season and education outreach.
- Bluegrass Meltdown received $3,000 for the Durango Meltdown Bluegrass Festival
- Choral Society/Children's Chorale received $2,000 for the Durango Children's Choral three-day music camp.
- Contra Dance received $2,000 for a Contra dance workshop.
- Durango Arts Center received $17,900 for a 2008 Art Library Exhibition program ($1,200), DOCENTS for hands-on art experiences ($1,000), Durango Performing Arts camp ($1,200), G.O.A.L.-Girl's Opportunities through Arts and Leadership ($500), Traveling Exhibits program ($2,000), Children's Musical "High School Musical" ($4,000), Creativity Festivity - with Durango 9-R School District ($4,000), and Kindred Spirits ($4,000).
- Durango Independent Film Festival received $7,500.
- San Juan Symphony received $5,500.
- Music in the Mountains received $7,000 for Family Festivo ($2,500) and Goes to School ($4,500).
- Narrow Gauge Chorus received $500 for continuing community outreach service.
