Fingerprint kits for children offered as part of National Night Out

DURANGO, Colo. - The Durango Police Department invites community members to help strengthen anticrime efforts by participating in the National Night Out, Tues., Aug. 5.  As part of this year's celebration, the Durango Police Department is supporting the National Child Identification Program (NCIDP) and the FBI in their goal of providing fingerprint identification and DNA sample kits to 60 million children in the United States.

According to a Department of Justice study, approximately 58,200 children are abducted each year by non-family members. National Night Out, NCIDP, the FBI and the Durango Police Department look to combat this startling statistic by setting a record on Aug. 5 for the most ID kits distributed within a single day.

The Durango Police Department, located at 990 E. Second Ave. will be open from 5 to 8 pm on Aug. 5 offering fingerprint kits for children. Learn more about National Night Out efforts at www.nationalnightout.org.
