DURANGO, Colo. - Fort Lewis College has named Darren Mathews as the new director of human resources.

Mathews began his new position as director on Nov. 17 and “feels very fortunate to be part of such a highly qualified staff.” He hopes to develop the Office of Human Resources as a service center for the college campus and employees.

Mathews obtained his M.A. in Human Resources Management from the University of Houston-Clear Lake, Tex. Most recently he served as the director of human resources for Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, and a human resources consultant for the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Tex. In addition, Mathews is a certified Human Resources Professional with experience facilitating a variety of management and leadership workshops.

“Darren brings a wealth of experience to our team,” said Steve Schwartz, FLC vice president for finance and administration. “I look forward to his contributions to Fort Lewis College.”

Mathews replaces Karen Aldrich, who took a new position as director of operations for the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College.
