DURANGO, Colo. –   The Salute-to-America City of Durango fireworks display will be broadcast live on KDUR on July 4. Fireworks fans who are unable to attend the annual downtown Durango event (as well as those present) can tune in to hear the sounds of fireworks coordinated to traditional Independence Day music.

KDUR has agreed to air 30 minutes of patriotic music, choreographed to the firework explosions. The show can be heard, without commercial interruption, on 91.9 FM and 93.9 FM, beginning at 9:00 pm.

As in the past, the fireworks display will be launched from Cemetery Hill on the east side of the city at approximately 9:00-9:15 p.m. and will be visible throughout the Central Business District. The show is sponsored by the City of Durango and presented by Durango Fire and Rescue Authority.

“This year’s display contains more than 3,200 charges and lasts nearly a half-hour,” said Fire Marshall Tom Kaufman, promising a great show. “We have 30 people working in all capacities, with the majority being experienced volunteers. Safety is foremost, so please enjoy our great show and leave the fireworks to us.”

Bob Kunkel, the City’s downtown events coordinator added, “The 800 block street dance ends with the first BOOM around 9:00 p.m., so everyone can find their preferred locations from which to view the fireworks display.”
