DURANGO, Colo. - The Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College welcomes family theater as its finest with “Rapunzel,” the musical adaptation by Max Bush and Ric Averill of the classic Brother’s Grimm Fairy Tale, Sunday, March 9, 4 p.m. “Rapunzel” has the strength of a pure fairy tale, purely told: Magical events come to life through comedy, song and delightful characterizations. This “coming of age” tale of the girl child traded away and raised in an enchanted tower is told in powerful images but with an appealing warmth and wit. “Rapunzel and her Prince are great,” said Gary Penington, concert hall managing director. “The manservant is even more comic, and the witch herself has an appealing quality that doesn’t detract from her power. This is great family theater.” The play is brought to the stage by the professional children’s theater company, The Seem-To-Be Players, who seek to expand the imagination, encourage creative thinking and promote an appreciation of human values through innovative productions and drama education for children, educators, and families. Averill has been the artistic director and principal playwright for The Seem-To-Be Players since he and his wife, Jeanne, founded the company in 1973.
