DURANGO, Colo. - The Colorado Department of Transportation has issued a traffic impact notice for the following project.

Daytime Traffic Impacts: Thursday, July 24 ONLY: There will be a full closure of Santa Rita Drive for trenching for installation of the signal at Santa Rita Drive and SH 3.

On US 160, two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction during daylight hours whenever possible. However, due to lane shifts and traffic slowing, travel delays are expected between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. throughout the summer months (and between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. after Labor Day). Please note, there will be travel delays at SH 3 and Santa Rita Drive through August for the signal installation.

Nighttime Traffic Impacts: Motorists may encounter single-lane closures at night. Crews may temporarily divert traffic onto the frontage roads during nighttime hours for various construction activities. Business access will be maintained at all times during construction, although access points may be altered to accommodate specific construction activities.

PROJECT OVERVIEW: The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and contractor Lawson Construction began construction on the US 160 Durango project through the Bodo Industrial Park on Monday, July 7. CDOT awarded the concrete resurfacing contract to Lawson Construction Company for $14.5 million and is scheduled for completion by November 1, 2009. The project includes reconstruction of 3.4-miles of the existing 4-lane roadway, concrete resurfacing, traffic signal installation, and replacement of the existing storm sewer system. The work zone lies between the junction of US 160/US 550 on the north/west end and the intersection with SH 3 on the south/east . Crews began the first phase of construction at the south end of SH 3 and will continue north (and west) towards CR 211. Work will include the removal of the center median, drainage reconstruction and installation of a new traffic signal at the SH 3 and Santa Rita Drive intersection (near Sonic). This phase is expected to last through August. Traffic volumes at this intersection warrant a signal; immediate installation of this new signal will provide a safer and more efficient flow of traffic, as some motorists will use SH 3 as an alternate route.
