Two more Concerts in the Park – SW Civic Winds & Baracutanga

DURANGO, Colo. – Two shows remain in the Community Concert Hall/Alpine Bank summer series “Concerts @ The Park” – Southwest Civic Winds Jazz Orchestra (July 20) and Baracutanga (July 27). The shows are set for Durango’s Buckley Park, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Southwest Civic Winds was organized in Durango in 2012 to provide a cultural resource for both regional musicians and the audiences who appreciate their work. The all-volunteer orchestra, self-described as a “Symphonic Community Band,” is comprised of brass, woodwind and percussion players, most of whom are professional musicians who perform for the joy of presenting music to their fellow community members.

Baracutanga, called a community of rhythm, song and culture, brings an exciting and distinct Latin flavor, certain to inspire dancing in the park. The seven-piece band representing four different countries (Bolivia, Ecuador, Peru and the U.S.), takes pride in arranging traditional South American rhythms, such as huayño and cumbia in new and interesting ways, adding Middle-Eastern darbuka, Afro-Cuban bata, Afro-Peruvian festejo rhythmic combinations and more for a unique, danceable fusion.

Designed to make live music more accessible to a broader community audience, the “Concerts @ The Park” shows require no tickets and offer a family-friendly environment to enjoy a diverse music line-up.

Concertgoers are asked to bring their own chairs or blankets, as seating is not provided at Buckley Park. Fired Up Pizzeria and Schlotzsky’s will offer small food items for sale at the park, but picnics are invited.

Buckley Park is located in the 1200 block of Main Ave. (between 12th and 13th Streets) on the north end of Durango’s historic downtown.
