Purgatory Opens for Summer Activities!

June 20 marks an exciting day for Durango—Purgatory opens for the summer season! Each year, Purgatory hosts several fun activities for locals and tourists alike, and we are excited to see 2020 is no exception. Of course, most people know it as our local ski resort, but summertime is also a fun time to enjoy the outdoors at Purgatory.

There is a morning session and an afternoon session available to help minimize crowds. The Alpine Slide is a longstanding Durango favorite—ride the scenic chairlift to the top of the mountain and slide back to the bottom. The views are incredible with the Needles mountains behind and gorgeous greenery around.

Purgatory Bike Park allows mountain bikers to ride a chairlift up the mountain and bike down through one of the many mountain bike trails. The Inferno Mountain Coaster is a mountain roller coaster that drops 300 feet and is almost a mile long. The speed is controlled by a handbrake, so riders can control the speed for a slower ride, or go up to 25 miles per hour!

Other activities include panning for gold, a kids’ off-road go kart track, and paddle boarding, kayaking, or canoeing on Twilight lake. The resort also offers lodging, restaurants and shopping, so it’s a perfect day trip or place to vacation for a few days. We are thrilled to see local activities open in time for our summer tourist season! Take a look at the link for more information: https://www.purgatoryresort.com/
