Local Durango Events—Something for Everyone!

It’s September in Durango, and there’s no shortage of local activities to keep the entire family entertained! Each week we write a lifestyle blog featuring events, information, or local businesses. This week, there’s a variety of activities in and around Durango, so we wanted to highlight a few of the options.

The Southern Ute Museum in Ignacio offers education, current event exhibits, and cultural information on the Southern Ute people. During the month of September, there is a lot to see. The Welcome Gallery features the Southern Ute Bear Dance, highlighting a spring and fall dance gathering unique to the Ute Tribes. The 2nd Level Welcome Gallery shows Living with Wolves Photographic Exhibit. The Permanent Gallery, Numi Nuuchiyu, We Are the Ute People, tells the story of the Ute people. The KSUT Public Radio, Featuring 40 years 1976-2016 gives the history of the radio station. This Thursday, September 6, there will be a special presentation with Jhane Myers. She will present powwow related information such as: regalia, songs, etiquette, and competition categories. Take a look at the website for more details and information: https://www.southernutemuseum.org/

On Friday, September 7, Twin Buttes will host the Twin Buttes Harvest Festival from 4-8 PM. There will be music, drinks, hay rides, food, and more. This sounds like a perfect event for the whole family.

On Saturday, September 8, Lake Nighthorse will feature a triathlon! There will be paddling or swimming, with a bike ride and run. This is a great way to enjoy our new lake and challenge your athletic skills.

For those who want to see theatre shows, Next to Normal will be at the Durango Arts Center, and “Circus in Wonderland” with The Durango Circus will show at Animas City Theatre.

There’s something for everyone this week and weekend in and around Durango! We hope you take the opportunity to enjoy where we live and the variety of events and arts and culture available as we head into the Fall season.
