President’s Day Weekend is upon us and Silverton—our neighboring town—hosts one of the most unique events all winter: Skijoring. This fantastic event comprises of a horse or motorcycle pulling a person on skis holding onto a rope down the middle of the snow-filled street. There are jumps and rings the rider catches on batons, and the rider goes around 35 miles per hour. Does that sound crazy? It’s pretty unique! The event is presented by the Four Corners Motorcycle Rally and Durango Harley-Davidson.
Friday evening, February 14, is the kickoff party at the Grand Imperial Hotel. Saturday and Sunday are full days of events, including Party Zone, Skijoring, Motorcycle snow races, awards, and celebrations.
Admission to watch Silverton Skijoring is free and for all ages. The event is located on Blair Street. If adults want to enjoy adult beverages, there’s the 805 Party Zone in the middle of town, for which adults may purchase tickets.
In the middle of winter, this is a spectacular way to enjoy the outdoors, as well as free and unique entertainment. It’s also a perfect time to enjoy Silverton’s restaurants, breweries, and local stores.
