Veterans Day Parade 2018

This weekend is Veterans Day, and do you know the purpose of the day? According to the US Department of Defense, “Veterans Day honors all of those who have served the country in war or peace — dead or alive — although it’s largely intended to thank living veterans for their sacrifices” (https://www.defense.gov/explore/story/Article/1675470/5-facts-to-know-about-veterans-day/). It was originally called Armistice Day, which commemorated the end of World War 1, but in 1954 it became Veterans Day to honor all American Veterans of all wars.

Durango celebrates with a Veterans Day parade! It will go down Main Avenue from 6th street to 12th street, on Veterans Day itself (Sunday), at 11 am. So, the parade begins at 11 am on the 11th of the month, in the 11th month of the year (11-11-11).

The parade includes anyone who wants to celebrate with the Veterans. There will be boy scouts, the Fire Department, bands, and more.

They still need 16 volunteers to be crossing guards on the cross streets for the crowd when the parade starts. If would like to do this and also have a birds-eye view of parade, contact Steve at the VFW: 247-0384.

We are so thankful for those who have served our country and continue to do so. The parade will be a fun way to celebrate those who have sacrificed for our country and freedom.
