Activities in and Around Durango—Not Impacted by the Fire!

At The Durango Team, we write a weekly lifestyle blog that highlights features, events, and activities in and around Durango. With the 416 Fire impacting our local area, we want to address the concern that Durango is not open for business or tourism, or there is not anything to do if you come visit. In fact, Durango and our surrounding area are filled with so many choices, there’s no shortage of fun for the entire family

Here are some ideas to consider in and around Durango:

Mesa Verde National Park: Take a day trip to some of the most intriguing ruins you’ll ever visit. The Ancestral Pueblo people dwelled here for 700 years, and visitors can enjoy visiting cliff dwellings, learning at the Visitor and Research Center, and taking a tour.

Animas River: The Animas River is the perfect summer afternoon activity. Tubing, rafting, walking the River Trail, or even a picnic are great ways to enjoy the river. Durango has several companies that manage raft trips and other activities. Take a look at these options: https://www.durangorivertrippers.com/, https://mild2wildrafting.com/, https://durangorafting.com/).

Downtown Durango: Explore Downtown Durango by foot. We have the best restaurants, bars, galleries, and shops. It’s a blast to wander downtown and experience the unique culture and vibe on Main.

Zipline: Did you know right outside of town there’s a zipline? Full Blast Adventure Center offers a 2-hour tour as well as a 3-hour tour, and they even have a commercial paintball facility! Take a look at the website: http://ziplinedurangoco.com/

These are just a few of the options available. Other ideas in Durango include: The True West Rodeo, the Durango Farmers Market, mountain biking, local museums, the Powerhouse Science Center, and more! We are so fortunate to live in a place as beautiful as Durango, and we are grateful for the many activities available. We hope you enjoy our town as you explore it, and our thoughts, prayers, and gratitude continue for all who are helping contain the 416 Fire.
