Bridging the Divide: Growing from the Ashes

Join local forest and fire experts to learn about wildland fire management, explore the impacts and recovery from the West Fork and Million fires, and understand how to protect your home from future fires.

On June 22 from 5:00-8:00pm, evening fire discussions at the Wolf Creek Ski Area will be followed by a FREE BBQ and local beer from both sides of the Continental Divide.

On June 23, from 9:00am to 3:00pm we will tour important burn areas with resources specialists, community members and land managers. We will meet in the South Fork Visitor Center, organize into vans, and drive through the burn area stopping to talk about the effects of the fire, how the burn area is recovering, and how communities are adapting. Lunch will be provided by the San Juan Headwaters Forest Health Partnership and Firewise of Southwest Colorado. Wear appropriate shoes, bring water, and be prepared for weather.

This event is hosted by the San Juan and Rio Grande National Forests, Firewise of Southwest Colorado, the Southern Rockies Fire Science Network, San Juan Headwaters Forest Health Partnership, Colorado State Forest Service, Mountain Studies Institute, and Wolf Creek Ski Area.
