Durango—Truly One of the Best Places for the Holidays

Did you know Durango frequently appears on “best of” lists to visit? This time of the year, we have been recognized nationwide as a magical place to spend the holidays (https://www.theactivetimes.com). Over the past few weeks, we’ve highlighted some of the town’s events, including the famous Polar Express. However, there’s still more to do! If you’re approaching vacation in the next week and looking for some family-friendly activities, we have some ideas for you.

Have you ever been on a dog sled? Durango Dog Ranch offers tours from the base of Purgatory. Guests receive a mushing lesson, then ride the sled, and finish with a hot chocolate. This is a unique opportunity that’s not available everywhere, and we have it in our own backyard. It’s such a fun way to experience snow and take in our gorgeous Southwest Colorado views! Take a look at their website for further details: http://www.durangodogranch.com/.

On Friday, December 21, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church hosts “The Majesty of Christmas,” an evening of Christmas music. There will be soprano Gemma Kavanagh, flutist Rochelle Mann, Durango Chamber Singers, trumpeter Marc Reed and pianist/organist C. Scott Hagler. Support these musicians with a peaceful evening out.

Did you know it’s possible to ride on a sleigh? Rapp Corral offers horse-drawn sleigh rides through the winter wonderland. They have five different sleighs, so various-sized groups are possible. This is a perfect romantic adventure, or even a fun trip for the entire family. Here’s their website for more details: http://www.rappcorral.com/trips-rates/sleigh-rides/.

We hope you enjoy our beautiful town during this week leading up to Christmas. It’s a special time of year and we are so thankful to live in such an amazing place.
