REC Center Reopens!

Recreation Center Reopening – Welcome Back!

Durango Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce that the Durango Community Recreation Center has reopen!  The health and safety of the community is our top priority, and the City appreciates your patience and flexibility in the navigation of this first phase of reopening. Recreation Center guests are asked to abide by the guidelines below to keep the staff and the community safe and healthy to allow the facility to remain open.

Passes placed on hold on March 16, 2020 will be extended for the duration the facility has been closed.

Phase I – Initial Reopening

Modified Facility Hours:

  • Monday – Friday 6:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.  The Aquatics area closes 30 minutes earlier
  • CLOSED Saturdays and Sundays
  • Fitness Classes start July 6, 2020

Guidelines:

  • Face coverings are mandatory throughout the facility, except while in the water
  • Maintain 6 feet of social distance
  • Guests will be required to notify the front desk staff of their destination while in the facility
  • Use provided wipes to clean off equipment before and after use
  • Due to capacity limits, entry is available on a first come, first serve basis.  If the facility is at full capacity, guests may need to wait outside for entry
  • Limit workouts to 90 minutes to allow others to use the Recreation Center amenities
  • Guests are encouraged to come dressed to workout
  • Bring your own equipment – basketballs, volleyballs, pickleballs, etc. since checkout equipment will be unavailable

What is available during the initial phase of reopening?

  • Administration offices will be open Monday – Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Fitness Area Including Free Weights, Cybex Machines and Cardio Equipment
  • Indoor Track
  • Assessment Room
  • Gymnasium – Drop-in Activities
  • Racquetball Courts
  • Lap Pool – Lap Swim Only
  • Leisure Pool – Lap Lanes and Current Channel (Adult Fitness Only)
  • Hot Tub
  • Locker rooms, Showers, Restrooms

What programs are available during the initial phase of reopening?

  • Durango Swim Club
  • Master Swim Program
  • Fitness Classes and Personal Training – Modified Schedule and Location
  • Water Fitness Classes – Modified Scheduled
  • Swim Lessons –  Parent/Tot, Private and Semi-private Only
  • Fitness Area Including Free Weights, Cybex Machines and Cardio Equipment

What amenities are NOT available during the initial opening phase?

  • Water Fountains- please bring your own water bottle
  • Pool Equipment is unavailable, please bring your own

Additional amenities opening in future phases:

  • Facility Rentals
  • Game Room
  • Climbing Wall
  • Child Care
  • Open Swim
  • Diving Board

Other Recreation Center amenities will open once it is determined social distancing can be maintained and it is safe to do so according to health officials. Please be patient with Recreation Center staff as new procedures are implemented. The Parks and Recreation Department looks forward to welcoming guests back into recreation facilities.
