EVENT DESCRIPTION

November 11, 2018 is the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War. Throughout the weekend, there will be multiple events and exhibits around Durango recognizing the occasion. Animas Museum Saturday November 10 from 10 am to 4 pm

  • Mini-Exhibit: Comparing WWI aviator and Viet Nam-era Naval Aviator uniforms
  • Poster Exhibit: “WWI: Lessons and Legacies” from the Smithsonian

Greenmount CemeteryOn November 11th, watch costumed interpreters introduce some of the WWI veterans who are buried there, and hear their stories. This is a free event, with donations being accepted for corrections to the gravestone of Jose Trujillo, a Durango native who died in WWI and the purchase of a marker for the gravesite of Loisa Bass, a local victim who died in the Spanish Flu epidemic of 1918.

Fort Lewis CollegeHead to the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College from 7 pm to 9 pm and watch the Southwest Civic Winds perform “A Century of Courage.” This concert commemorates the 100th anniversary of the signing of the armistice that ended WWI. Tickets are available online or at the door.
