Amazing Local Skiing

With recent snow and more forecast this week, it’s a perfect time to take advantage of local skiing.

This weekend a couple unique events are available at Purgatory. On Saturday, February 23, there’s a Snowcat Dining Excursion. Riders will leave Purgy’s and ride in the Snowcat up to the Powderhouse Restaurant. There will then be a unique meal at the restaurant, then the ride back in the Snowcat. The views at this time of year are spectacular, and this experience is truly a unique way to take in the ski resort and local area, without even skiing!

This weekend (February 24) is also one of the Community Benefit Days at Purgatory. Lift tickets will be discounted, and a portion of the ticket price will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters. This is a fantastic cause, and it’s a great way to enjoy a day at Purgatory at a lower price. It’s a win-win deal! Take a look at the Purgatory website for more details on each of these events this weekend: https://www.purgatoryresort.com/events/snow-cat-dinner-powderhouse-copy/; https://www.purgatoryresort.com/events/community-benefit-day-2/).

Hesperus is also a way to enjoy the benefits of skiing on a smaller scale. The mountain is all open, and the snow report shows 36” base depth. There’s even night skiing at Hesperus, which is a fun change to traditional skiing. Hesperus has lessons, rentals, and tubing available. There are also special deals available for various groups/ages at Hesperus: college students, seniors, active duty, kids under 10, and 5th graders. Take a look at the website for details: https://www.ski-hesperus.com/.

Winter can be a very exciting time in the Durango area, with so many fun outdoor activities. We hope you take the opportunity to enjoy some of the local skiing and events in the area.
