An Evening With Martha Scanlan & Jon Neufeld

Four Corners music fans have embraced Martha Scanlan ever since her old-time string band, the Reeltime Travelers, began playing festivals like the Durango Bluegrass Meltdown and Silverton Jubilee in the early 2000s. While the bulk of their material was traditional Appalachian numbers, it was Scanlan’s original songs like “Hallelujah” and “Raven” that captured the hearts of fans. After the group broke up, Martha went solo in 2007 and has released three critically-acclaimed albums and an EP since. Songs like “The West Was Burning” and “Honey Blue” have become staples on the KSUT Music Blend. She’s performed in Durango more than a dozen times, solo, with Reeltime Travelers, and duos with Sand Sheff and Thomas Sneed.

Jon Neufeld tours with Scanlan as her partner-in-crime, augmenting her sound with ethereal guitar. Best known as the lead guitarist for Black Prairie, a Portland-based, bluegrass-influenced band that features members of The Decemberists, he’s worked with the likes of Rhett Miller of Old 97’s.
