Community Concert Hall and Alpine Bank reprise “Concerts @ The Park”
Free seven-week concert series in Durango’s Buckley Park debuts June 15 with Run Boy Run
DURANGO, Colo. – Alpine Bank of Durango and the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College, with support of the City of Durango, have teamed up once again to present the free summer “Concerts @ The Park” in Durango’s Buckley Park, Thursdays, June 15 through July 27, 2017. All shows are scheduled for5:30-7:30 p.m.
Designed to make live music more accessible to a broader community audience, the “Concerts @ The Park” shows require no tickets and offer a family-friendly environment for enjoying a diverse music line-up.
First up on June 15, is Tucson, Ariz.-based Run Boy Run, bringing a unique sound rooted in the traditional music of the Appalachian South, while furthering the sense of innovation in traditional American music put forth by bands such as Nickel Creek and The Wailin’ Jennys.
The band is siblings Matt Rolland (fiddle/guitar) and Grace Rolland (cello/vocals), sisters Bekah Sandoval Rolland (fiddle/vocals) and Jen Sandoval (mandolin/vocals) and bass player Jesse Allen. With three strong female voices – singing separately or in harmony – and a familial connection to traditional American music, Run Boy Run was tagged by Paste Magazine as “One of the top 10 Arizona bands to hear now.”
From winning the band contest at “Pickin’ in the Pines” (mere weeks after forming in 2009) and a special appearance at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in 2012, to two appearances on NPR’s “A Prairie Home Companion,” Run Boy Run has been building a fan base across the U.S. with an open-ended musical approach and dynamic stage presence.
Following Run Boy Run on June 15, the 2017 Concerts @ The Park schedule continues with:
- June 22 – Durango’s own The Cannondolls brings Americana blended with modern influences.
- June 29 – A throwback and stylish take on honky tonk country presented by Halden Wofford & The Hi Beams.
- July 6 – Garrett Lebeau offers rock and “soul” with a spirit for life.
- July 13 – Tribute band Chris Collins and Boulder Canyon honor John Denver.
- July 20 – From Durango, Southwest Civic Winds Jazz Orchestra fires up brass, woodwind and percussion.
- July 27 – Be ready to dance to the South American rhythms of Baracutanga.
Concertgoers are asked to bring their own chairs or blankets, as seating is not provided at Buckley Park. Fired Up Pizzeria and Schlotzsky’s will offer small food items for sale at the park, but picnics are invited.
Buckley Park is located in the 1200 block of Main Ave. (between 12th and 13th Streets) on the north end of Durango’s historic downtown.
