Durango Weekend Happenings

Durango is one of those unique places that offers outdoor activities year round. Summer is especially fun because the warm temperatures allow long days and evenings full of light. This upcoming week, there are several unique events around town.

This Friday, July 12, there will be an outdoor movie held at the Durango Rec Center lawn hosted by the North Main District. How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World is a perfect movie for all ages. Seating starts at 8:30, and the movie starts at 9. There will be a concession stand onsite, but bring lawn chairs and blankets!

This weekend, the 66th Annual Four Corners Gem and Mineral Show will be held at the La Plata County Fairgrounds Friday through Sunday. This event features rocks, gems, geodes, fossils, meteorites, shells, beads, jewelry, and more. There are also activities throughout the weekend, including kids’ activities and gold panning all weekend. Admission for the event supports this nonprofit organization, as well as a scholarship program for FLC geology students. Also this weekend will be the inaugural Mountain Archery Festival at Purgatory! The event features several archery events, including Train to Hunt Course, Kirsch Course, Mountain Madness Shoot Off, a Neon Night Shoot, and a kids’ course. The evenings will include vendors, live music, and outdoor films. Take a look at the official site for more details: https://mountainarcheryfest.com/events/purgatory-resort

These are just a few of the entertainment options in town this weekend. We have so many opportunities available, which makes Durango one of the best places in the world to live and work!
