TRUE WESTERN ROUNDUP

Each summer, more than 4,000 spectators gather to preserve western history 8 seconds at a time at the True Western Roundup, formerly known as the True West Rodeo. Held every Wednesday night all summer long at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, this event is where old west heritage and modern athleticism combine for a bronc bustin’ fun!

True Western Roundup

The mission of the True Western Roundup is to preserve western heritage in a family friendly atmosphere. This means each week’s rodeo promises fun and excitement for spectators of all ages. Rodeo has deep roots in Durango. The sport rose from the practices of working cattle herders in Spain and Mexico, who brought the friendly competition to the Four Corners region. True Western Roundup in Durango tests the skills and mettle of cowboys and cowgirls from southwest Colorado and beyond.

The True Western Roundup honors this rich history through bulls, broncs and true western entertainment. Events at the True Western Roundup include open bull riding, saddle broncs, ranch broncs, bareback, novice bull riding, breakaway, barrel racing, and team roping.

Fun For The Family

The little ones aren’t excluded from the fun at the True Western Roundup. Participants under age 7 can sign up for Mutton Busting, while those 13 and under can try their hands at Steer Riding. True Western Roundup tickets are available at the door and cost as little as $18 per person for veterans, seniors and youth and $20 for adults. Season passes are available to let you enjoy the fun all summer long. In addition to the rodeo fun, True Western Roundup offers spectators an authentic chuck wagon experience.

True Western Roundup, formerly known as the True West Rodeo, has been a part of Durango’s summers since 2014 and is a true community event. Before each Wednesday night rodeo, True Western Roundup organizers intend to present a $200 check to a local non-profit organization to help support Durango’s community service groups.
