Durango is home to The Powerhouse Science Center and MakerLab, the Southwest’s premier interactive science center for all ages. They produce one-of-a-kind exhibits, programs, and activities to induce imagination, curiosity, and overall exploration of the past, present, and future. Aptly named after the site they’re located in, a restored 1893 electric plant, The Powerhouse values are centered around education, energy, science, history, community, leadership, and trust.

This summer The Carnegie Science Center has organized GEAR UP: The Science of Bikes. The traveling exhibit is at The Powerhouse from May 28 through September 12 teaching the history, science, and impact that bikes have. The on-site MakerLab hosts a plethora of science camps exploring everything from bugs and Archaeology to engineering robots and culinary experiments, giving kids of all ages access to hands-on educational opportunities to enjoy Earth’s rudimentary functions with an added sense of fun, these camps are perfect for entertainment and learning.

The rotating exhibitions put on by The Powerhouse team provide the community with a unique playground. Located by the Animas River and river trail, there is nature right outside to keep exploring. The Powerhouse also offers their space to events, cocktail parties, and even weddings. Don’t miss out on any of their new and exciting programs by visiting their website here: https://powsci.org/
