Free spectator event to take place at Ska, Dec. 14-17

Durango, CO (Dec. 13, 2016) – Ska Brewing and Durango Rock Lounge welcomes over 70 of the world’s best ice and mixed climbers from 14 countries to Durango this week where they will be competing in the UIAA (International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation)/AAC (American Alpine Club) Ice Climbing World Cup. Youth and adult climbers will compete on a 38’ wall that has been built specifically for the event at Ska world headquarters.

This event was brought to Durango for the first time thanks to Marcus Garcia, owner of the Rock Lounge climbing gym in Durango and a UIAA Youth Commission Member. It is the only internationally sanctioned UIAA/AAC Ice Climbing World Cup to be held in North America for the 2016-2017 season. In addition to the World Cup, The North American Ice Climbing Championships will take place during this event. These events are of great significance to the sport for our country, as they are the stepping-stones for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to recognize the USA’s involvement.
