Have you ever been to a show by the San Juan Symphony? On Sunday, February 23, a 250th celebration of Beethoven will take place at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis. On Saturday, the performance will be held in Farmington. According to the website, “In addition to the monumental “Eroica” Symphony, enjoy the Leonore Overture played Side-by-Side with student musicians and a World Premiere by David Biedenbender to honor the historic occasion.” This is bound to be a beautiful event and a perfect way to enjoy a winter outing.
“The San Juan Symphony is an innovative regional orchestra that contributes to the cultural enrichment of the diverse communities of the Four Corners area with inspiring live performances and creative collaborative efforts.” It started in the 1970s when two orchestras formed in Farmington and Durango. Now there are approximately 85 members between Farmington and Durango.
The San Juan Symphony represents the local area and cultural groups, and also focuses on educational opportunities and youth orchestras for local students. They also sponsor competitive music scholarships to local colleges.
