The Black Lillies

The Black Lillies are a quartet from Knoxville, Tenn., that blend country, rock,, folk, soul, blues, bluegrass and jazz into . They’ve become one of the most popular bands on festival stages and concert halls in the Four Corners, and are regulars at Pagosa Folk’n Bluegrass and the Four Corners Folk Festival on Reservoir Hill. They’ve also appeared at the Henry Strater Theatre and other venues across the region. With roots in country, rock, folk, soul, blues, bluegrass and jazz, the Black Lillies appeal to a wide variety of listeners. Their albums have received heavy airplay on AAA/Americana stations like KSUT, college radio and Top 40 country signals, while their videos have appeared on CMT. They’ve also performed at the Grand Ole Opry, NPR’s Mountain Stage, and Music City Roots. The group will release their fifth album, For the Record, this fall, following such critically-praised releases as Whiskey Angel in 2009, 100 Miles of Wreckage in 2011, Runaway Freeway Blues in 2013, and Hard to Please in 2015. Songs like “Two Hearts Down,” “Smokestack Lady,” and “Hard to Please” have become staples on the KSUT Music Blend. The Black Lillies’ lineup features Contreras (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards and mandolin), Sam Quinn (bass), Bowman Townsend (percussion), and Dustin Schaefer (electric guitar).
