2010 Durango Independent Film Festival Was The “Reel” Deal

Packed Audiences, Filmmakers From Around The World Help To Continue The Festival’s Growth

Durango, Colorado – The Durango Independent Film Festival (DIFF), held March 3 – 7, 2010 in Durango, Colorado was the “big one,” according to officials alluding to the festival’s “Lure of Film” tag line. Full houses from the very start of the festival through the final day, enjoyed nearly 100 films created by filmmakers throughout the world who brought the stories of the world to this southwestern Colorado town.

“There is nothing like independent film,” said Joanie Fraughton, the festival’s Executive Director. “It is a true collaboration of people that make festivals like this happen. From the filmmakers and their teams to the volunteers at the pass pick-up kiosk, we are a community of individuals who together create something great.” Fraughton enjoyed noting that while the Durango Independent Film Festival awards night was taking place, another popular awards night was taking place in Hollywood, The Oscars. “While our independent filmmakers were receiving both Juried and Audience accolades, the Motion Picture Academy was presenting their best picture and best director awards to another independent film –
The Hurt Locker – we just loved that,” she said.

The 2011 film festival is scheduled for March 2011. Details can be found online at durangofilm.org by signing up for the festival’s electronic notices.
