An Acoustic Evening with Joe Diffie and Aaron Tippin

Durango, CO – Joe Diffie and Aaron Tippin get back to the roots of their music when these country legends offer their stories and songs during a special acoustic evening at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College, Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, 7:30 p.m.

Joe Diffie, since he first topped the charts in 1990 with Home, has remained on a steady course, staying true to his Oklahoma roots. He originally worked in a foundry while playing local nightclubs in Oklahoma, but moved to Nashville in 1986 to work for Gibson Guitars and get “serious” about songwriting.

Since that time he has delivered 12 #1 hits, 20 top 10s and four gold and platinum albums. It is said, whether he’s singing hits such as “3rd Rock from the Sun,” “Pickup Man,” “John Deere Green” or “If the Devil Danced (In Empty Pockets),” Diffie’s music is said to take listeners back to where they were the first time they heard the song.
Described as “the man with the golden voice,” Diffie has a Grammy and CMA awards to his credit, and has been honored as Humanitarian of the Year by the Country Music Broadcasters. With his most recent album Homecoming , co-produced by Diffie and Luke Wooten, Diffie returns to bluegrass, the music that started it all for the country star.

Aaron Tippin is called a force of nature, a man whose passion for music fuels an array of other vigorous endeavors. Many in the music industry regard this tireless South Carolinian as the “Hillbilly Hercules.”

As a teenager Tippin performed in local honky-tonks, but participation on TNN’s “You Can Be a Star” talent contest landed him a song publishing contract. He moved to Nashville in 1987 to write songs, and his first Nashville nightclub show in 1990 earned him a record deal with RCA.
His ambitious first single “You’ve Got to Stand for Something” cracked the Top 10 in 1991, and today, with more than 30 charted singles on the Billboard Hot Country chart, Tippin’s honest lyrics and direct, impassioned vocals continue to sustain a large and devoted following.

On show day, the box office at the Concert Hall will be open one hour prior to curtain, and remain open through intermission. When no intermission is scheduled, ticket sales will continue one hour past curtain. Purchase tickets to three or more Concert Hall productions in one sales transaction and receive 10 percent off each ticket. Discounts cannot be combined, and all sales final.

Showtime for Diffie and Tippin is 7:30 p.m., with doors to the Concert Hall and concessions, serving beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages and snacks, opening at 6:30 p.m.
