Blues/R&B artist Kelley Hunt to perform in Durango Sept. 18

Hot off her performance at Telluride Blues & Brews, acclaimed Roots R&B/Americana singer-songwriter/keyboardist/guitarist Kelley Hunt returns to Durango for a benefit concert for the La Plata Family Centers Coalition, Sunday, Sept. 18, at 4 p.m. in the Rochester Hotel courtyard.
The event will cap-off the Durango Autumn Arts Festival on 2nd Ave. in Downtown Durango and serve as the local release event for Hunt’s CD Gravity Loves You. Tickets are $20 each and available at www.whatshappeningdurango.com.
“We’re so grateful for the Rochester Hotel’s willingness to host the concert in the hotel’s beautiful courtyard,” said Gaye Weiss, executive director of La Plata Family Centers. “It’s an intimate setting, great for a show. Plus we’re thrilled to have Kelley coming to support the Family Centers Coalition, and ConocoPhillips has stepped up as our Headline sponsor, so it’s all good!”
Recognized throughout the industry and among media critics as “fiercely independent,” Kelley Hunt combines an earthy Midwestern identity with the influences of R&B, roots rock, blues, gospel, folk and soul to create her own unique identity, resulting in an impressive “indie” career. Accomplishments include five critically-acclaimed international releases, numerous performances on international blues/roots/music festival stages, six live appearances on “A Prairie Home Companion,” and more.
In addition to her bluesy domination of the piano and soulful, powerful voice and remarkable range, it is said that the latest generation of Hunt’s music is a collision of righteous roots influences and contemporary overlays, with rich veins of social and political observation threading throughout.
As noted in Vintage Guitar, “Kelley Hunt resides among those bluesy, soulful piano players who write great songs. Her piano playing and songwriting also function at the highest levels.”
Of her latest release, Gravity Loves You, Blues Revue writes “…Hunt’s vocal and captivating piano playing work together to lift each composition to gravity-defying heights.”
