Celebrate the New Year at First Night Durango
First-ever downtown New Year’s Eve celebration set for December 31st
Durango, Color. – Eco Logic Events in partnership with the City of Durango, Downtown Business Improvement District, Durango Chamber of Commerce and Durango Area Tourism Office is excited to introduce the first annual First Night Durango, a New Year’s Eve celebration to be held in downtown Durango. The family-friendly event will feature a snowboarding competition, live music and dance performances, local food and beverages, champagne and cupcake tasting, and a lot more. Ring in the New Year with the Grand Snowflake Drop-like the famous Times Square Ball Drop, but in true Durango style!
This one of a kind event provides the community with a chance to celebrate the New Year together, and is bound to become one of the most unique and exciting nights of the year. First Night will be held December 31st – January 1st from 7:00 p.m. – 1:00 a.m. on the 10th and 11th blocks of Main Street in downtown Durango. The Main Street event is free to all ages. Tickets to Bubbly-the champagne and cupcake tasting-are $50.
Party-Goers will get to see the first ever Grand Snowflake Drop-count down with the whole town as a larger-than-life sparkling snowflake is dropped from the northeast corner of the Durango Office Suites building. The family drop will happen at 10:00 p.m., with a New Year’s Eve drop at midnight. Just as the snowflake touches the ground at midnight, the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad train will ring in the New Year with a blast from its signature horn.
The evening will be full of entertainment and activities for everyone including fire spinners, jugglers, live music, great food, hot chocolate, and local beer and wine. Watch through the Durango Dance windows as the Salt Fire Circus and the Mataholla Moon Belly Dance groups perform exhilarating dance routines. Party goers will also be able to escape the winter chill in heated tents, located in the Alpine Bank parking lot. Kids will find tons of fun inside by turning the whole tent into a winter wonderland full of games and activities.
One of the main show stoppers will be the Snowboard Competition right on 11th Street. Snow will be brought in by Durango Mountain Resort, and Inferno Snowboards will build the jumps and rails. The show is free, and runs from 8:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.
For those preferring a more effervescent event, we will be offering Durango’s first Bubbly: A Champagne and Cupcake Tasting! People will be able to enjoy sparkling libations and decadent cupcakes while lounging in comfort in an urban winter lounge with a full bar and a club atmosphere. Party Goers will be able to enjoy the festivities of First Night then dance to music of the past decade in the VIP tent. They’ll also be able to capture their memories with friends in the classic photo booth stocked with a variety of costumes. Tickets are $50 and include a champagne tasting, classic 2010 champagne glass, ticket to the photo booth, and food including cupcakes. Cash bar is also available. Bubbly will he held from 8:30 p.m. until 1:00 a.m.
