Classic Americana at the Community Concert Hall on Nov. 7

“A Prairie Home Companion” veterans Robin and Linda Williams to perform

Durango, CO – Americana music returns to the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, as Robin and Linda Williams take the stage at 7:30 p.m.

Virginia-based, Robin and Linda Williams are known for their rich harmonies and original songwriting rooted in the country/bluegrass/gospel tradition. Enjoying widespread national prominence on Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion” for three decades (including performing in the Robert Altman film of the same name), Robin and Linda Williams are said to create music that is both comfortable and thoughtful, combining wryly observant lyrics with a wide-ranging melodicism – keeping an even keel while musical trends come and go.

Both children of the south (Linda is a native of Alabama and Robin was born in North Carolina), the couple met in 1971 on a visit to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina while Linda was teaching school and Robin was a full-time musician on a national coffeehouse circuit. It wasn’t long before they discovered magic when they combined their voices in harmony.

Today, as performers, the Williams’ stirring concerts have earned the couple an expansive body of fans. As gifted songwriters, the couple also has earned the rare honor of devotion and deep respect of their musical peers. Among those who have covered their original songs are Emmylou Harris, Kathy Mattea, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Tim & Mollie O’Brien.
