Cody ChesnuTT brings soul to the Community Concert Hall, Mar. 20

Durango’s Robby Overfield and The Breaks opens the show at 7:30 p.m.

Durango, CO – Called a thrilling new figure in music, soul troubadour Cody ChesnuTT comes to the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College, Thursday, Mar. 20, 2014. Durango’s Robby Overfield and The Breaks opens the show at 7:30 p.m.

Described as a “raw storyteller for the people, shouldering a guitar and a toothpick-chewing smirk,” ChesnuTT wears poetic license on his skin like a battle scar. His frank, socially conscious ruminations on life continue to challenge popular notions of what modern soul music can look and sound like. Truthfulness emanates from ChesnuTT’s vocal chords and the strings of his guitar, while his strong, sensitive voice continues to command listeners with its riveting sound, leading them to their own higher ground.

NPR maintains, “This guy thinks big – about his life, his history, his place on a musical and historical continuum, and his hope for salvation and growth.”

A native of Atlanta, ChesnuTT has stood his own creative ground since he first recorded the much-revered The Headphone Masterpiece, literally in his bedroom. The result of his do-it-yourself effort was an unvarnished collection of songs – 36 total – which alchemized his love of a multitude of styles: classic rock, R&B, pop, punk and gospel music.

Landing On A Hundred, ChesnuTT’s second full-length LP, marks his return after a period of spending time with his family, as well as in reflection following his meteoric rise to near fame. The title references the adage, “Keeping it one hundred,” or telling the whole truth.
ChesnuTT is currently on the road with is “B Sides and Remixes Tour,” featuring, for the first time in 10 years, selected songs from The Headphone Masterpiece.

Special guest Robby Overfield opens his show with his band The Breaks featuring Alex Morrow, Jesse Ogle and Ryan McCurry.

Overfield is lauded as an acoustic musician who blends the art of storytelling and genuine lyrics with a powerful voice. Originally from Detroit, Overfield has continued to expand his musical framework from his base in Durango, including unique perspectives on his own life and encounters. With an ability to captivate with his live performances, Overfield is said to leave his audiences changed by the power of music and emotion.
Noted Scott Hutton, Hutton Broadcasting, “Once in a great while a band will come along that really brings stories to life with its music. This group is all about great storytelling music played with some amazing, down the core, heartfelt, down-home soul….Band leader and lead vocalist Robby Overfield brings a great voice to the stage with the talent to tell a story with song lyrics that are incredibly moving.”
