Community Concert Hall to host second season of The Met: Live in HD

Metropolitan Opera performances transmitted live in High-Definition to FLC campus

Durango, CO – Following a successful inaugural season, the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College will once again partner with The Metropolitan Opera to screen performances of The Met: Live in HD during the opera’s 2013-2014 season. Tickets go on sale to the general public Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013.

“The Met does offer its members advance purchase, so community folks who are members of The Metropolitan Opera can purchase tickets Friday, Aug. 16,” said Charles Leslie, director, Community Concert Hall, who successfully negotiated the arrangement to bring opera to Durango. “Patrons who would like to purchase the entire season will be able to do so starting Aug. 19.”

As last year, The Met’s performances will be screened in the Vallecito Room of the FLC Student Union. Equipment installed during the Student Union’s renovation meets The Met’s broadcast standard requirements, enabling the special programming.

The Met: Live in HD series will kick off Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013 and features 10 live performances. The “magic” of The Met: Live in HD events is that they are delivered 100 percent live via satellite. Audiences throughout the world experience the production at the same time as the audience sitting in the Metropolitan Opera itself.
Additionally, between acts, The Met: Live in HD viewers are treated to backstage interviews and other features the “in person” audiences never see. Productions will be screened in Durango on Saturday mornings, typically 10 or 10:55 a.m.

The scheduled 2013-2014 program is:

· Oct. 5, 2013, 10:55 a.m. – Eugene Onegin (Tchaikovsky)

· Oct. 26, 2013, 10:55 a.m. – The Nose (Shostakovich)

The Community Concert Hall is a not-for-profit, multi-use performance venue located on the campus of Fort Lewis College. Its ability to bring a diverse spectrum of shows to Southwest Colorado is made possible through a partnership with the college, a state-supported, independent institution of higher education, and financial and in-kind contributions from generous members of the community.
