“Concerts in the Park” kicks off July 11 with Elder Grown
Community Concert Hall and Alpine Bank offer free summer concert series in Buckley Park
Durango, CO – Rock band Elder Grown will kick off the Alpine Bank-Community Concert Hall “Concerts in the Park” series on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Durango’s Buckley Park, 5 to 7:30 p.m.
Alpine Bank of Durango and the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College have teamed up for the free summer concert series to make live music more accessible to a broader community audience.
Elder Grown, with roots in Pagosa Springs, was formed by the three Hoffman brothers – Josh, John and Paul. As the band developed, vocalist and musician Tyler Sharp joined the group that combines the styles of rock, reggae, hip hop, blues and dub. Utilizing guitars, bass, drums, congas and horns, Elder Grown is said to create an atmosphere that is fun, emotionally charged, and exciting for listeners of all ages and interests.
The name “Elder Grown” is a nod to the respect the Hoffman brothers have for family, which they say is best represented by their Australian grandmother, Marion “Elder” Hoffman, credited as the seed for the brothers’ kindness and love, and ultimate fuel for their music.
“Elder Grown is gathering quite a following in the region, so we’re looking forward to enjoying some great music,” said Charles Leslie, Concert Hall director, of the “all ages” show. “Come on down to the park. It’s a casual, fun way to spend an early summer evening.”
No tickets are required, and no established seating will be provided at Buckley Park. Patrons are asked to bring their own chairs or blankets. Picnics are invited. For this event, however, volunteers from the La Plata Family Centers Coalition will be grilling hot dogs for attendees. Donations are suggested.
Buckley Park is located in the 1200 block of Main Ave. (between 12th and 13th Streets) on the north end of Durango’s historic downtown. “Alpine Bank and Your Community Concert Hall Presents Concerts in the Park” continues on up-coming Thursdays, July 18 and 25, and Aug. 1.
The Community Concert Hall is a not-for-profit, multi-use performance venue located on the campus of Fort Lewis College. Its ability to bring a diverse spectrum of shows to Southwest Colorado is made possible through a partnership with the college, a state-supported, independent institution of higher education, and financial and in-kind contributions from generous members of the community.
