Country comes to the Community Concert Hall with Aaron Watson

Local singer/songwriter D.L. Marble to open the show on April 24

Durango, CO – Aaron Watson, singer/songwriter in the honky tonk tradition, will take the stage at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College, Wednesday, April 24, 2013. Durango-based, alt country singer/songwriter D.L. Marble will open the show at 7:30 p.m., and the dance floor will be open.

Aaron Watson is said to play country music with a traditional feel but with a young man’s energy and spunk. Born in Amarillo, Tex., Watson’s earliest musical influences were the gospel hymns he sang in church with his family and the classic country records by George Jones, Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson his folks played at home. Watson began writing and singing his own songs while a student at Abilene Christian University, and after graduating he became a regular fixture on the Texas honky tonk circuit.

In 2002 Watson released his first album, Shutupanddance, which spawned the hit singles “Off the Record,” “I Don’t Want You to Go (But I Need You to Leave),” and the title tune. The album also earned him airplay and media attention.

In recent years Watson has been subtly transforming his sound toward a more contemporary, country radio-friendly one – without abandoning his Texas roots. The result has been numerous accolades and awards, and a growing fan base.

Watson says he draws inspiration for his music from his family, fans and faith, and he has a steadfast dedication each. His latest release, Real Good Time (2012) includes songs about Watson’s wife, his parents and grandparents, and about his faith in Jesus.

Durango’s D.L Marble is considered an Americana/roots/red dirt singer with a rock ‘n’ roll soul. A self-described working man, Marble pens lyrics that range from comedic to tragic, and everything in between. His soulful voice reaches across genres, demographics and generations. Marble, who admittedly has taken the long road, is said to write songs not for critics or music executives, but to release his internal feelings as well as rock his audiences.

Wrote Chuck Kuehn, owner, former Abbey Theatre, “D.L. is a songwriter that brings everything to the table, leaving the listener wanting more. Songs with meaning and a story, Real Outlaw Country, or Red Dirt if we were in Texas.”
