“Country Royalty” comes to the Community Concert Hall Sept. 16

Jason Petty and Carolyn Martin featured in tribute to Hank Williams and Patsy Cline

DURANGO, Colo. – Talented performers Jason Petty and Carolyn Martin team up to bring two country music legends – Hank Williams and Patsy Cline – to the stage together for the first time in the musical tribute “Country Royalty.” The Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College welcomes the show to Durango, Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, 7:30 p.m.

Petty, nationally lauded for his recreation of Williams, and Martin, Grammy-nominated singing sensation who gives a “jaw-dropping” performance of Cline, take audiences back in time to when these country giants ruled the airwaves. In “Country Royalty,” the duo, backed by a live, five-piece band, serenades with more than 20 of Williams’ and Cline’s biggest hits including “Crazy,” “Hey Good Lookin’,” “Sweet Dreams,” “Your Cheatin’ Heart,” “Walking After Midnight,” “I Saw The Light,” “I Fall To Pieces,” “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry,” and more, plus provides a look behind the scenes to the events and influences that shaped the careers of Williams and Cline.

Jason Petty, a veteran actor and singer, began portraying Hank Williams in 1996 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. Since that time, he’s appeared in national tours of “Hank Williams: Lost Highway” and “Hank and My Honky Tonk Heroes.” When bringing “Lost Highway” to New York’s Theatre District, he made a striking impression, playing to sold out audiences at the Little Shubert Theater and receiving critical acclaim for his portrayal of Williams. He ultimately won the Obie Award for “Outstanding Actor” for his role.

From European concert halls to intimate venues at home in Nashville, Carolyn Martin is revered as a vocalist with a unique sense of musical style, a charismatic stage presence and a voice that exudes passion and expressive elegance. A 2011 Texas Western Swing Hall Of Fame inductee, Martin was named as the 2008 and the 2010 Western Swing Female Vocalist of the Year by the Academy of Western Artists. Her CD, “Swing” was a nominee for the Western Music Association Western Swing Album of the Year and was tapped as one of the Top 10 western swing albums of the year by DJs around the world.
