The Community Concert Hall welcomes

Dave Samuels and The Caribbean Jazz Project on Feb. 27

Durango, CO – The Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College brings the inventive Latin jazz ensemble Dave Samuels and The Caribbean Jazz Project to Durango on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, 7 p.m.

Founded in 1993 by Dave Samuels, The Caribbean Jazz Project has set a new standard in original, improvised music based on the rich musical traditions of the Caribbean, where music from Africa, Europe and the Caribbean Islands first merged and spread its roots. The Caribbean Jazz Project explores these styles meshing them with the spontaneity of jazz. The ensemble has earned numerous Grammy nominations, including a win for Best Latin Jazz Recording for The Gathering.

The current line-up, in addition to Samuels (vibes and marimba), is Lincoln Goines (bass), Oscar Feldman (sax), Vince Cherico (drums) and Arturo Stable (percussion).

The top mallet player of his generation, Dave Samuels is recognized for his fresh new sound and creative approach to both the vibraphone and marimba. A former member of Spyro Gyra (1977-1994), Samuels has demonstrated his versatility and gained worldwide recognition by performing and recording with a broad scope of artists. He has been voted “Best Vibes Player” in both Jazziz and Modern Drummer magazines.

As a bonus during his visit to Durango, Samuels will participate in the FLC Jazz Festival, set for Thursday, Feb. 28. Up to 18 jazz bands compete/perform throughout the day, and the evening concert will feature Dave Samuels with the FLC Jazz Ensemble and the top scoring High School Jazz Ensemble from the Jazz Fest. Showtime is 7 p.m., with doors to the Concert Hall and concessions, serving beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages and snacks, opening at 6 p.m.
On show day, the box office at the Concert Hall will be open one hour prior to curtain, and remain open through intermission. When no intermission is scheduled, ticket sales will continue one hour past curtain. Purchase tickets to three or more Concert Hall productions in one sales transaction and receive 10 percent off each ticket. Discounts cannot be combined, and all sales final.

The Community Concert Hall is a not-for-profit, multi-use performance venue located on the campus of Fort Lewis College.
