Festival Organizers Announce 2013 Films

Durango, CO (February 11, 2013) – 2013 Durango Film celebrates its 8th year as southwest Colorado’s premier showcase for independent film. Festivities kick off Wednesday, February 27 with the popular free movie night and continue through Sunday, March 3. Films will be shown at several venues in Durango, including the main venues of The Gaslight Theatre and Durango Arts Center. An additional Ignacio venue was added this year to screen several films in the 3rd Annual Native American Film Program.

Durango Film’s Executive Director Joanie Fraughton announced this year’s rebranding of the festival. The Festival, now “Durango Film” has a new logo and new positioning that encourages participants to “escape, expand and explore.”

“Our new brand better states our connection to Durango as an internationally recognized destination and provides spotlight to the elements inherent in independent film – exploration, escape from the every day, and expansion of people’s horizons,” said Fraughton.

The center of festival action this year is the Irish Embassy Pub. Centrally located on the corner of Main Avenue and 9th Street in Durango, The “Pub Hub” will host the Filmmakers’ Lounge and the Will Call Window/Box Office for pass pick up and purchase. Festival programs and schedules are also available at this location. In addition, a special insert will be in the Durango Herald a week prior to the festival.

The 2013 film schedule includes Features, Documentaries, Shorts, Adventure Sports, Family, LGBTQ, Native American and a Schools program. (Please note, a complete list of films follows this press release) In addition to a wide array of film, the festival hosts special events and activities including filmmaker parties, receptions, panels and a gallery walk around downtown Durango.

Audience Awards are given in each category and will be voted on by the public. In an effort to be more environmentally friendly, this year festival attendees may vote online at durangofilm.org. Voting will end on Saturday, March 2nd at 6 p.m. The 2013 Independent Spirit Award has been awarded to The Irish Embassy Pub for its outstanding community support of the Festival.
