DURANGO, Colo. (KREX) — As magma heats the water underneath the Earth’s surface, the water forces its way out of the ground and spews out as a geyser.
One geyser formed a hot spring which has been around for thousands of years, used by ancient Puebloans before the Utes.
In the late 1800’s, Frank Trimble bought this single natural pool and started to market it to the public.
More than a century later, this ancient hot spring has grown to include 32 geothermal mineral tubs with a spa, stage, food, and drinks.
Operations manager Mason Quicke of the newly named Durango Hot Springs tells me rust is prevalent on each tub because of these minerals, and assures it’s not just safe, it’s beneficial.
Mason also tells me there’s more amenities on the way, including a hotel, honeymoon suites, and cabins.
This transition from one pool to an expanding resort will take a whopping 14 million dollars, supplied by new owners Dan Carter and Bryan Yearout.
Mason tells me not only is this resort luxurious, it’s high tech. He says all of their water passes through a super magnet, changing the molecular basis of the water to something named ‘solution-form’ in a system called quantum fusion. This allows the dermis of the skin to absorb it.
Tub temperatures range anywhere from 45 to 115 degrees Fahrenheit.
While Durango definitely relies on tourism to support its economy, the locals can’t pass up this newly renovated resort.
Mason tells me the non-chlorinated water flows continuously, refilling tubs every two and a half hours.
