ECO LOGIC EVENTS AND PASSION PRODUCTIONS PRESENTS DURANGO GAY MOUNTAIN FESTIVAL Weekend-long event highlights Durango’s world-class mountain bike terrain.

Eco Logic Events is excited to introduce the first annual Durango Gay Mountain Festival, a unique celebration of mountain biking and socializing in the Durango area. The event will take place over four days starting on September 9 and continuing through September 12. Durango is famous for its world class mountain bike trails, 300 days of sunshine, and vibrant downtown scene. Out of towners and locals alike are invited to participate in the many events taking place over the course of four days in September, including a Sushi Skate night, Barbeque and pool party, shuttle-assisted, guided mountain bike rides, and a downtown bike parade.

The Festival kicks off on Thursday night with a Meet and Greet Cocktail Party at the historic Rochester Hotel. On Friday and Saturday, participants will be shuttled to one several spectacular mountain bike rides, including Hermosa Creek, Colorado Trail and more. Following the ride on Friday is the Sushi Skate at the Chapman Hill Ice Rink, where skaters are invited to don their wildest costumes, skate to the DJ spun tunes and help themselves to fantastic fresh sushi. Saturday’s riders are invited to relax poolside and soak their tired muscles at Trimble Hot Springs while enjoying a delicious barbeque meal and some good old country rock. Festivities on both nights will continue downtown, where participants can sample the fare of many of the fine pubs and lounges Durango has to offer. The weekend culminates on Sunday with a wild downtown bike parade. Bring your costume and your camera!

The rides were chosen because of their incredible scenic beauty, stellar terrain, and signature character. The ride on the Colorado Trail begins as a downhill singletrack high in the mountains, and passes through thick forests and spring-fed waterfalls, traverses rocky singletrack along the lush banks of Junction Creek, meanders along a buffed trail through aspen and pine forests, and ends with a 2500 foot downhill romp to the beginning of the Colorado Trail, 20 miles from the start. Hermosa Creek starts with a shuttle drop off high in an alpine meadow, and parallels Hermosa Creek gorge first on a creek-side doubletrack, then narrowing to exquisite singletrack suspended high above the creek. After 21 miles and a challenging climb, the trail finishes with a downhill slalom through sunny Ponderosa pine forests all the way to the trailhead.

The Durango Gay Mountain Festival is designed to offer a summer alternative to popular Colorado Gay Ski Weeks, weeklong series of skiing and socializing that attracts visitors from all over the world to our state in the winter. As Colorado is known for its awesome skiing terrain in the winter, Durango has come to mean awesome mountain bike terrain for the summer crowd. The area is a destination for mountain bikers across the country, and even the world. Last fall, Durango hosted the annual Singlespeed World Championships, which is hosted by a different country each year and draws a range of participants from Australia to Europe. In the future, the Durango Gay Mountain Fest is designed to evolve into a weeklong vacation, showcasing Durango’s broad range of mountain-based activities ranging from mountain biking, rafting, and jeep touring, and, of course, socializing. The event is open to everyone. Riders do not have to be advanced, as each rider’s skill level is matched to the ride.
