“Fridays at the Fort” Goes Downtown on August 6 – Concert Hall partnership with Alpine Bank brings bluegrass to the street
The Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College, in partnership with Alpine Bank Durango, takes its show off the mountain and to the street on August 6 as Fridays at the Fort Goes Downtown. A free bluegrass/Americana music show will be held 5-7 p.m. on 11th St. between Narrow Gauge and Main Ave. in Historic Downtown Durango.
Featured performers for Fridays at the Fort Goes Downtown are Durango-based string band Wild Mountain and singer/songwriter Cindy Woolf.
“We wanted to truly embrace the town and gown concept,” said Charles Leslie, Community Concert Hall director, referencing the intertwining of the college with the community. ‘The whole idea of Fridays at the Fort is to make music available to as many folks as possible, and with Alpine Bank stepping up as our sponsor, we were able to bring this show to Downtown.”
Wild Mountain plays an eclectic and unique blend of Americana, bluegrass, alt-country and folk music – songs that focus on life in the Southwest and Colorado. Honest and engaging, Wild Mountain’s original songwriting mixes traditional “mountain music” with social, environmental and political themes.
The band enjoys a rich blend of musical styles and features the husband and wife team of Brad Bartlett and Estella Moore on guitar, fiddle and vocals. Rusty Charpentier (bass, vocals) and Elijah Stone (mandolin, fiddle) complete the unique quartet. Wild Mountain competed in the 2009 Rockygrass band competition and will release its second CD, “High Country Roots Rebel” in Fall 2010.

Cindy Woolf, an Americana singer/songwriter from the Ozark Mountains, offers up acoustically driven songs with hints of bluegrass and folk interjected with subtle blues for taste and texture. Her voice is lauded as “a thing of wonder.”
Woolf honed her performing skills as a solo artist at open mic nights while attending Missouri State University, and has since recorded two albums, “Simple and Few,” an acoustic release, and “Before Daylight,” a largely electric offering. Both have met with strong reviews.
Wrote Josh McBee, POP Magazine, “Cindy Woolf’s guitar strumming swirls around the mix lightly like cream swirling in hot coffee. The songstress has a nice, interesting voice that mixes country naiveté with empowered feminist lyrics.”

Fridays at the Fort Goes Downtown is free to the community, with no tickets or reserved seating, though food and beverages will be available for sale. ID will be required for adult beverages. The Community Concert Hall is located in the growing arts complex of Fort Lewis College. It operates through a partnership with the college, a state-supported, independent institution of higher education, as well as the city of Durango, and with financial and in-kind contributions from generous members of the community.
