Business Improvement District announces Holiday Decorating winners
Merchants help transform Durango into a “wondrous winter” with creative efforts
Durango, CO – The winners of the 2016 Holiday Decorating Contest, sponsored by the Durango Business Improvement District (BID), were announced this morning (Dec. 9, 2016) at the monthly BID Coffee & Conversation meeting.
Winners were selected from three character districts of the BID, and chosen not just for window decoration, but also full holiday displays. The 2016 winners are:
Main and Cross Streets:
Blu Boutique
Dolce
Fuzziwigs Candy Factory
Main Mall
Urban Market
East 2nd Ave.:
Mutu’s Italian Kitchen
Rochester Hotel
North Main:
Earth Girl Goodies
Quality Inn
Smart Enterprises
“The lights and decorations throughout Durango are always great,” said Tim Walsworth, BID executive director. “The secret judges had a difficult time limiting the winners. We’re excited that so many merchants participated. Holiday lights and decorations truly enhance the shopping and entertainment experience in Durango during this time of year.”
Annually, local merchants help deck Durango’s proverbial halls as part of the town’s holiday festivities. The BID rewards their efforts, presenting each winner with a $50 gift card to a business within the District. Judging was held on Noel Night, Dec. 2, 2016.
The holiday display competition is part of “Wondrous Winter,” the comprehensive, three-month marketing program sponsored by the BID to help draw both locals and visitors to Durango for shopping, dining, services, entertainment and fun.
This year, Wondrous Winter is helping to promote more than 60 events or activities taking place in and around Downtown Durango.
“Wondrous Winter is a win-win for everyone,” said Walsworth. “Instead of focusing promotional efforts on just one or two events during the holidays, we are able to help spread the word about all the activities taking place. There is something for everyone to enjoy in Durango during Wondrous Winter.”

The Durango Business Improvement District was formed in 1997 with a goal and mission to support businesses within the District by assisting with special event marketing, providing research on topics of concern to the District (facilities, special events, best practices), planning and development of new facilities, and providing capital budget for equipment that enhances business in the District. Funding is generated by a 2 mill levy on property owners within the district, with additional marketing dollars contributed by the City of Durango.
