Youth dance auditions for “Nutcracker” to be held Oct. 18
Local dancers to be included in holiday ballet at the Community Concert Hall
Durango, CO – As has become tradition, local youth dancers, ages 6-15, will be included in the professional production of the State Street Ballet of Santa Barbara’s “Nutcracker” at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College. Auditions are set for Sunday, Oct. 18, 2015.
A traditional ballet, “Nutcracker” will be staged at the Community Concert Hall Friday–Sunday, December 11-13, 2015, with four performances, including, for the first time, a live orchestra – the San Juan Symphony. Dancers selected during auditions must be available to dance in all shows.
The Oct. 18 auditions will be held on stage at the Community Concert Hall, and dancers are asked to come dressed in leotard/tights and ballet slippers, and encouraged to arrive early to warm up. The audition schedule is:
- 10:00-10:45 a.m. – ballet students ages 6-8
- 10:45-11:15 a.m. – ballet students ages 8-10
- 11:15-12:00 noon – ballet students ages 10-12
- 12:00-1:00 p.m. – ballet students ages 12-15 (*bring pointe shoes if available)
To be considered, dancers must be able to fit the available costumes and are required to participate in all rehearsals on Friday evenings andSaturday and/or Sunday afternoons beginning October 24 (except Thanksgiving weekend), as well as after school December 7-10, and during the dayFriday, December 11.
Each year approximately 60 local youth are selected to perform with the professionals in the State Street Ballet rendition of “Nutcracker.” Further audition questions should be directed to Judy Austin, 970.764.7142 or [email protected].
The Community Concert Hall is a not-for-profit, multi-use performance venue located on the campus of Fort Lewis College.
