Los Lonely Boys set to perform at the Community Concert Hall April 5

Show also features Moreland & Arbuckle and Kirk James Blues Band

DURANGO, Colo. – The Grammy-award winning Los Lonely Boys will return to the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College, Tuesday, April 5, 2011, with special guest roots musicians Moreland & Arbuckle. Local favorite the Kirk James Blues Band will open the show at 7:30 p.m.

Los Lonely Boys’ Durango concert will be among the very first following the March 29 release of the band’s latest work Rockpango, an album said to be the stuff that made Los Lonely Boys stars, “luscious brotherly vocal harmonies, potent songs with unshakeable pop appeal, irresistible grooves.”

An Austin-based group of brothers – Henry (guitar), Jojo (bass) and Ringo (drums) Garza – Los Lonely Boys is noted for its unique style of music that combines elements of blues, soul, country and Tejano, which the brothers have dubbed as Texican rock ‘n’ roll.

Since the breakout 2004 self-titled album, which went twice platinum and garnered a Best Pop Performance Grammy for the No. 1 hit single “Heaven,” Los Lonely Boys have toured throughout the world, performing some 200 shows to more than 350,000 fans in 2009-10 alone.

Born into a musical family, the Garza brothers first picked up instruments as toddlers. As teenagers they often backed their father, who originally had a popular conjunto band called the Falcones in the ’70s and ’80s with his five brothers and sisters.

When old enough to venture out on their own, the Garza brothers moved to Nashville, with little success. However, Willie Nelson happened to hear the band’s sound and invited Los Lonely Boys to record its first album in his Austin studio.

Los Lonely Boys’ Rockpango (a Spanglish word coined by the brothers, which translates more or less to “rock party”) stands as the most personal work yet by the Garzas who wrote and produced the 11-track collection. Engineered and mixed by Steve Chadie (Wilco, Sublime), Rockpango follows 2010′s critically acclaimed Keep on Giving: Acoustic Live! which captured collaborations with fellow Texans Alejandro Escovedo and Carrie Rodriguez, and additional inspired moments from Los Lonely Boys’ Acoustic Brotherhood Tour.

All Music Guide praised Rockpango’s “seamless three part harmonies” and “blazing guitar/bass interplay,” while Vintage Guitar wrote that Henry Garza’s work earned him a spot among “the top guitarists of his generation.”

Kansas-based special guests Aaron Moreland (guitar) and Dustin Arbuckle (vocals/harmonica) have spent nearly a decade exploring the edges of American roots music. In the process – with help of drummer Brad Horner – Moreland & Arbuckle have forged a sound that merges Delta blues, folk, rock, traditional country, soul and more. Simply put, Moreland & Arbuckle merge old school Chicago and Delta blues with garage rock sensibilities.

The Edmonton Journal wrote of Moreland & Arbuckle “one of the more inspiring young acts putting a new shine on music rooted in a century-old tradition.” Listen to clips of the group’s music at www.morelandarbuckle.com

Special guest Durangoan Kirk James is solidly grounded in the Texas Blues tradition, performing ragtime, Texas shuffles and funky grooves. Raised in Dallas, Tex., James has been playing music since age five, and counts as his early influences greats such as Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters and Reverend Gary Davis. James’ unmistakable phrasing mixed with a signature bottleneck slide conjures images of T-Bone Walker, Elmore James and Lightning Hopkins during his performances. Learn more at www.kirkjames.com.

The Community Concert Hall is a not-for-profit, multi-use performance venue located on the campus of Fort Lewis College. Its ability to bring a diverse spectrum of shows to Southwest Colorado is made possible through a partnership with the college, a state-supported, independent institution of higher education, and the city of Durango, as well as through financial and in-kind contributions from generous members of the community.
