“Special Guests” to join Lyle Lovett and his Large Band, July 27

“Concerts for Scholarships” show to feature a full night of music.
DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College “Concerts for Scholarships” show slated for Monday, July 27, promises to be a full evening of music, as three “special guests” will join Lyle Lovett and his Large Band under the stars in Ray Dennison Memorial Field.
At 5:30 p.m. cowboy crooner Greg Ryder will kick-off the evening, followed at 6:15 by the Lisa Blue Trio. At 7 p.m. Texas singer/songwriter Bob Livingston will offer Americana folk-rock, with headliner Lovett and his Large Band taking the stage at 8 for a 2.5 hour performance. Food and beverage concessions will be available in the stadium throughout the evening.
“This will be one of the best music values Durango and the Four Corners have likely ever seen,” said Gary Penington, FLC event specialist and the show’s producer. “And it’ll be a great party. What a way to spend a summer evening – and help support Fort Lewis College at the same time.
Tickets – general admission $40 each, with reserved seats available for $75 each – are on sale at the Community Concert Hall Ticket Office in Downtown Durango, by phone, 970.247.7657 or www.durangoconcerts.com. Children under 12 will be admitted free with an adult bearing a general admission ticket.
A VIP tent will also be available for an additional $65 per person (on top of the ticket price) featuring a variety of hot festival foods, complimentary non-alcoholic beverages, wine and beer, plus a cash bar for additional alcoholic beverages, open until 9 p.m. Limited reserved parking is available adjacent to the stadium for $15 per car, and parking, access and seating for those with disabilities is also planned.
With a unique voice (and look), Lyle Lovett has managed to blend the trails blazed by the great Texas storytellers, such as Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark, and on-the-edge writers such as Randy Newman and Tom Waits, and has emerged as a talent known for an eclectic array of music, ranging from country and folk to big-band swing and traditional pop.. He will command authority when he comes to Durango, touring to promote his most recent release, It’s Not Big It’s Large. View videos of Lyle Lovett performances at http://www.lylelovett.com/#/video/.
Texas singer-songwriter, Bob Livingston grew up in Lubbock, Texas but now calls Austin home. He’s shared the stage and studio with some of Texas’ most colorful musicians, including Jerry Jeff Walker, Michael Martin Murphey, Ray Wylie Hubbard and the legendary Lost Gonzo Band. Livingston has lived a life of high musical adventure, touring internationally in more than 20 countries including Europe, India, Africa and Vietnam. His new compilation CD, Original Spirit, is infused with inspirations and insights from his world travels and features several tracks from his recordings with the Lost Gonzo Band. Lisa Blue is the honey-voiced songstress and songwriter, harvested from Hawaii and replanted in Durango. She’s worked regularly with Music in the Mountains and has opened for Ray Price and Marty Stuart at the Community Concert Hall, plus is a regular in the Bar-D Wranglers Christmas Series. She is currently producing her next album with friends and Durango favorites Pete Neds and Hal Lott. Together they make the Lisa Blue Trio, a blend of torchy, sultry and R&B, with a little bit of real country and pop favorites in the mix.
Local Greg Ryder writes what he knows – cowboy ballads, comic satire, political statements – creating a genre that some have called “Cowboy Lounge/Acoustic Cow Punk.” Originally from Wisconsin, Greg has set down roots in Durango, which inspired him to revive the songs of the Old West in appearances and recordings.
“Concerts for Scholarships,” designed to bring internationally-renowned performing artists to Durango and raise funds for Fort Lewis student scholarships, was launched in 2008 with the Beach Boys, and has featured the Charlie Daniels Band and Stephen Stills. Sponsors and volunteers interested in participating in the “Concerts for Scholarships” events can contact Gary Penington directly at 970.247.7117.
