Durango, CO:    The memorable melodies of musical comedy come to Durango as the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College hosts the widely-acclaimed “Neil Berg’s 100 Years of Broadway,” Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, 7 p.m..

“Neil Berg’s 100 Years of Broadway” recreates the greatest moments from the top shows of the century as a cast of five Broadway stars backed by an all-star New York band perform songs from popular musicals such as Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, My Fair Lady, Cats, Chicago, Wicked, Jersey Boys and more. In addition, up to six local performers may be part of the show, selected from video auditions. Those to perform are expected to be announced Feb. 21.

As noted in the Buffalo News, “Broadway tunes leave audiences with an enchanted evening. Neil Berg is a powerful, kinetic pianist with a load of chops… What (made) Berg’s production was the quality of the performers and the arrangements. The singers were excellent. Berg creates a well-balanced blend of the sublime and the lighthearted.”

Along with musical director and pianist Neil Berg, plus the live band, the Durango production will feature Ron Bohmer (Ragtime, Phantom of the Opera, The Scarlet Pimpernel), Sandra Joseph (Christine, Phantom of the Opera), Chuck Wagner (Into the Woods, Les Miserables, Beauty and the Beast), Andrea Rivette (Miss Saigon, Jekyll and Hyde), Lawrence Clayton (Dreamgirls, Civil War, It Ain’t Nothin’ But the Blues). (Cast subject to change based upon possible Broadway and touring developments.)

Wrote Robert Diamond, Broadwayworld.com, “‘Neil Berg’s 100 Years of Broadway’ is two and a half hours of fun. Whenever Neil Berg is putting on his 100 years of Broadway within a two hour radius – I’m there! Neil puts on these hit-filled concerts featuring a bevy of Broadway performers some of the theater’s most well-known tunes. It brought down the house, and it doesn’t get much better than that.”
