          DURANGO, Colo. – The memorable melodies of musical comedy come to Durango as the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College hosts the widely-acclaimed “Neil Berg’s 100 Years of Broadway,” Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010.

          This musical revue recreates the greatest moments from the top shows of the century and features a cast of five Broadway stars backed by an all-star New York band. In addition, up to 12 local performers will be part of the show, selected from video auditions. Those to perform are expected to be announced Jan. 13.

          “This revue features some of the best songs from the best Broadway shows, all sung by some of the most talented performers working today, singing many of the hit songs that they have sung on Broadway,” noted KABC San Francisco radio theater critic Jerry Friedman.

          “100 Years of Broadway” includes some 30 show tunes, ranging from classics such as “Some Enchanted Evening” (“South Pacific”), “Over the Rainbow (“Wizard of Oz”) and “Impossible Dream” (“Man of La Mancha”), to more recent songs including “Seasons of Love” (“Rent”), “Sherry” (“Jersey Boys”) and “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant” (Billy Joel’s “Movin’ Out”).

The Durango cast of “100 Years of Broadway” includes:

Carter Calvert – New York credits for Calvert include starring in the original Broadway production cast album, and touring productions of “It Ain’t Nothin’ But The Blues.” She has toured Europe in “Smokey Joe’s Café,” played Grizabella in the national tour of “Cats” and appeared as the title role in “Always, Patsy Cline.” 

 

Robert DuSold – Most recently DuSold held the role of Harry Bright in the Las Vegas production of “Mamma Mia.” His Broadway and national touring credits include Jason Green in “the Producers,” Javert and Valjean in “Les Miserables,” Old Deuteronomy in “Cats” and Monsieur Andre in “Phantom of the Opera,” among others. DuSold is also feature in the new book “Making it on Broadway: Actors’ Tales of Climbing to the Top.” 

 

Rob Evan – Starring in the original Broadway cast of “Jekyll & Hyde,” Evan performed the title roles for three years and more than 600 performances. His additional Broadway credits include the role of Kerchak in Disney’s “Tarzan,” Valjean in “Les Miserables” and the sadistic Orin Scrivello DDS in “Little Shop of Horrors.” As a vocalist and recording artist, Evan is a member of the platinum selling rock band, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, as well as lead vocalist for Jim Steinman’s The Dream Engine.

 

Tamra Hayden – On Broadway, Hayden has appeared as Cosette in “Les Miserables” in more than 1,800 performances. She’s has also toured as Cosette, as well as performed nationally as Christine in “The Phantom of the Opera” and Hodel in “Fiddler on the Roof.” A versatile singer and actress, Hayden has played a wide variety of roles in regional theatres.

 

Danny Zolli – Best known for his monumental number of performances as Jesus, Judas and Annas in more than 15 productions of “Jesus Christ Superstar” throughout the world, Zolli’s unique and stirring performance of the aria “Gethsemane” is debated among “Jesus Christ Superstar” fans as one of the best.   Zolli has just completed and will soon be releasing his second solo album entitled “Sometimes Simple is Best.”  Most recently, he starred as Jesus in the 20th Anniversary concert of “Jesus Christ Superstar.”

Showtime is 7 p.m., with doors to the Concert Hall and concessions, serving beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages and snacks, opening at 6 p.m.

The Community Concert Hall is located in the growing arts complex of Fort Lewis College.  It operates through a partnership with the college, a state-supported, independent institution of higher education, as well as the city of Durango, and with financial and in-kind contributions from generous members of the community.
