Pianist Robin Spielberg comes to the Community Concert Hall
One of America’s most-beloved pianists/composers to perform April 29
Durango, CO – Robin Spielberg, a Steinway Artist who has been winning the hearts of listeners around the world with her compelling melodies and sensitive piano technique, will share the beauty of her music at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College, Wednesday, April 29, 2015, 7:30 p.m. With 17 recordings to her credit and appearances on more than 40 compilations from around the world, Spielberg is said by the media to “cast a spell on her audience that is palpable, visceral and spiritual.” “After you see her perform, you’ll just feel a whole lot better about the world,” reported the HippoPress New Hampshire.
Spielberg’s discography includes albums of original piano solos, arrangements of American standards, original pieces for piano/ensemble, recordings for the holidays, a CD of Americana melodies and a CD of lullabies. Her most recent effort, Another Time, Another Place is set for release April 28.
Cindy James, KRSC radio host of “Sunday Interludes,” noted, “(Robin Spielberg) has a gentle way of telling stories through music. She hits the nail on the head every time she titles a song, and then, precedes each piece with the story of each song…I was fortunate to be able to attend her concert and what an experience.”
A graduate of New York University, Spielberg began her concert career in 1996 and made her Carnegie Hall debut in a sold-out performance in 1997. Her debut recording on her own playMountain Music label, Dreaming of Summer, topped charts in Thailand, China, Hong-Kong, Korea and Malaysia, with one of the tracks, an improvisation on the “Canon in D,” also gaining popularity with audiences as the soundtrack for Korea’s award-winning television drama, “Winter Love Song.” This track has been Spielberg’s best-selling download on iTunes for 14 years.
Spielberg is also a Celebrity Spokesperson for the American Music Therapy Association. Her interest in music and healing grew when she witnessed first-hand the positive effect music had on her own baby daughter (born prematurely) during her four-month stay in the neo-natal intensive care unit. A CD entitled Beautiful Dreamer was the musical result of this experience. She continues to donate $1 from the sale of each Beautiful Dreamer CD to music therapy research. In the field of dance, The West Florida Youth Ballet choreographed a program of dance works based on her music, and ballroom waltzes were choreographed to her pieces, “Walk with Me” and “A Song for Jennie” on PBS’ “Great American Ballroom Challenge.”
University ballroom teams have toured with her work, and international ballroom competitions utilize her music for the compulsory waltz portion of competitions. Spielberg has also written a memoir, Naked on the Bench: My Adventures in Pianoland, and while on the road performs “book release concerts,” which incorporate humorous excerpts from her book within the concert setting. The book demystifies the process of building a concert career and tells what is unexpected in the life of a touring musician.
