DURANGO, Colo. – Cleveland Pops Orchestra founder and conductor Carl Topilow will lead the Music in the Mountains Festival Orchestra during the annual Pops Night Benefit Dinner & Concert, Wednesday, July 22, beginning at 5:30 at the Festival Tent, Durango Mountain Resort. Tickets are $150 per person.

Topilow mixes traditional styles with contemporary without leaning toward the edgy side of popular music.  Unlike some pops orchestras, he focuses on Broadway, Hollywood, jazz and other light-hearted repertoire made in the U.S.A. The Pops Night concert will feature classic hits from the Big Band Era including music by Irving Berlin, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey and Benny Goodman.

In addition to his role as Cleveland Pops conductor, Topilow is in his 28th year as conductor of the Cleveland Institute of Music and is music director and conductor of the National Repertory Orchestra, a summer music festival based in Breckenridge, Colorado.

In addition to a sit-down dinner and live auction in the Festival Tent, Pops Night features a pre-dinner reception and silent auction. Auction items have been donated by regional and local artists and all proceeds benefit Music in the Mountains.

Music in the Mountains is a fully integrated summer festival of orchestra, chamber and world music with a concurrent conservatory young artists program along with a year-round schools program, Music in the Mountains Goes to School.  Southwest Colorado’s three-week Festival of classical music, featuring world renowned musicians, runs July 10 through August 2, 2009. Tickets may be purchased online at www.MusicintheMountains.com, in person at the Festival Office, 1063 Main Avenue and the Community Concert Hall Ticket Office at 7th & Main Avenue in Durango or by calling 970.385.6820. Group and Series ticket discounts are available.
