Real Men Sing! Presented by Music in the Mountains Goes to School
(Durango) Monday, November 16, 2009. Real Men Sing! presented by Music in the Mountains Goes to School will perform a musical program to Florida-Mesa and Sunnyside Elementary students Friday, November 20, 9:00 am at Florida-Mesa Elementary School. Under the direction of Dr. Andrew Homburg – a Fort Lewis College vocal music professor – a group of students from the Men’s Choir will showcase the versatility of men’s voices. The program will include Medieval Gloria – a chant based piece, Daemon Irrepit Callidus – a Hungarian work by Orban, Shenandoah – an American folk song featuring three part echo, Africa – made popular by TOTO and Climbin’ Up the Mountain – a gospel-styled African American spiritual.
“We are excited about the opportunity to present Real Men Sing” stated Music in the Mountains Education & Programs Manager, Anne Beach. “When I met with the music teachers they wanted to present a performance to encourage young men to participate in the joy of singing.” Congratulations go to the Real Men Sing choir as they have been invited to perform at the International Society of Music Education’s 29th World Conference in Beijing, China.
Music in the Mountains is a 501(c)(3) organization with a fully integrated festival of orchestra, chamber music and a concurrent Conservatory programs along with a year-round schools program called Music in the Mountains Goes to School. Southwest Colorado’s three-week Festival of classical music, featuring world renowned musicians, is preparing for its 24th season beginning July 10 to August 1, 2010.
