Release Party/Show for Rhythms of Durango, Vol. 3, set for Nov. 21

Business Improvement District produces third CD of local music – called “best yet.”
DURANGO, Colo. – An evening of free, live, local music is set for Fri., Nov. 21, at the Rhythms of Durango, Vol. 3, CD release party and show. Doors to the Henry Strater Theatre (The Hank) open at 5 p.m., with on-going music planned until 8:30 or beyond.
“The artists from Rhythms of Durango will be performing live on stage at the Hank, and we’ve scheduled them in roughly 20 minute blocks,” said Indiana Reed, Rhythms co-producer with Pam Glasco. “But if the crowd wants more and the artists are game, which we suspect they will be, music will continue throughout the evening.”
Those attending the release party will have opportunity to be the first to purchase Rhythms, Vol. 3 for $15 (plus tax). The artists will be on hand to add their autographs to the limited edition release. A cash bar will also be available.
Rhythms of Durango, Vol. 3 continues with the tradition established by the Durango Business Improvement District (BID) in 2006 to showcase Durango’s wide variety of local musicians and vocalists who perform in the Historic Downtown. Vol. 3 features 19 artists of a variety of genres. Those artists already scheduled to perform at the CD release party include, Lisa Blue, Annie Brooks, Jack Ellis & Larry Carver, Tim Guidotti, Gigi Love, Dave Mensch, Cameron Phillips with his band “Free Radical” and Jason Thies, with more working with their schedules to make the show.
The promotional CD is a tool in the BID’s on-going effort to help maintain the economic viability of Downtown Durango. Four Corners Broadcasting also stepped up to support the CD, helping further the reach of the music and artists on local radio stations KIQX 101.3FM and KRSJ 100.5FM.
“The Business Improvement District exists to help all businesses within the Central Business District,” said Rod Barker, BID board member, and as owner of the Strater, host of the CD release party. “Live music happens all over our Downtown. We’re delighted to be able to promote our local vocalists and musicians, as well as the venues at which they play.”
“This CD is the best yet,” added Pam Glasco. “A majority of the songs on the CD are new and either just released or soon to be released songs by our artists. As is traditional in Durango, it features many singer/songwriters, but it is a wonderful blend that stretches from country and folk to jazz and rock and more.”
The full line-up of artists featured on the CD, mastered locally at Scooter’s Place, are the Bar D Wranglers, Lacey Black, Lisa Blue, Annie Brooks, Carute Roma, Jack Ellis & Larry Carver, Tim Guidotti, JS Trio, Gigi Love, Dave Mensch, Pete Neds, Cameron Phillips, Matthew Russell, Stillwater, Jeff Strahan, Strange New Shoes, Tim Sullivan, Jason Thies and Waiting on Trial.
Glasco and Reed worked with Dave Mensch (singer/songwriter with Formula 151) and Scott “Scooter” Smith as music consultants on the project. The CD booklet, designed by Graphic Designer Lisa Morales Eccher, includes biographies of and contact information for all participating artists. As Reed reminds, while the music is terrific, a goal of the CD is to promote the artists and Downtown.
“We want locals and visitors alike to hear this music, learn more about the artists, and say, ‘Hey, that group is playing Downtown, they’re great, let’s go see them,’ and maybe even buy their CDs or book them for a gig,” said Reed. “It’s very rewarding to work with local artists who often are every bit as talented as some of the superstars out there. How cool will it be to say, ‘We knew them when…’ and have a collector’s item like Rhythms of Durango ?”
Following the release party Rhythms of Durango will be available at various merchants in the Downtown, including Southwest Sound, Durango Coffee Company, Canyon Music, Steaming Bean and the Community Concert Hall Ticket Office. A complete listing of merchants will be available on the BID web site, www.downtowndurango.org. For further information on Rhythms of Durango, including wholesale opportunities, call 970.375.5067.
